Early signs show Cadel is the Tour favourite

11 June 2008 | 12:09 - By Mike Tomalaris

The body responsible for organising the Tour de France has stuck by its ban on the 2007 Tour champion Alberto Contador and his Astana team. This leaves the way open for Aussie Cadel Evans, or does it, asks Mike Tomalaris.

The clock is slowly ticking for Cadel Evans and his date with destiny at the Tour de France.
Barring a turnaround of the highest order, it seems Tour organisers will not re-neg on their decision to ban Alberto Contador from taking his place at the start line on July 5.

Contador a deserving Giro champion

02 June 2008 | 9:29 - By Mike Tomalaris

Alberto Contador may not have won a stage in this year's Giro, but he's proven to be the complete all-rounder, playing by the rules, and was cool throughout.

Some critics say Alberto Contador has no right to be the winner of the 2008 Giro d'Italia - after all he failed to win a stage during the three week race.
So what!
While riders such as Riccardo Ricco and Emanuele Sella enjoyed their share of victories, niether was good enough to grab the leader's jersey when it mattered most - on the final stage.

Contador still dogged by dope rumours

01 June 2008 | 8:41 - By Mike Tomalaris

When Alberto Contador stood on the winner's dais at the 2007 Tour de France, his victory was shrouded with rumour and suspicion because of his alleged links to doping. If the Spaniard hangs on to the pink jersey in Milan tomorrow should he brushed with the same innuendos?

The Giro comes to a grinding halt tomorrow morning, but after three weeks of hard racing I fear something big has been missing from the season's first Grand Tour.
At first I couldn't quite put my finger on it, but then it suddenly hit me.
