Fairytale win for Norway!

Eurovision 2009 was indeed a Fairytale for Norway and its charismatic 23 year old singer-violinist Alexander Rybak.


Rybak was a runaway favourite finishing the evening with a whopping 387 points. In Second place was Iceland's Yohanna with "Is it true?" on 218. Third place was Azerbaijan's AySel & Arash "Always" on 207.

Second Semi Final all strung up

Violins, double basses, cellos and more. This year's Eurovision is shaping up as the year of string. Minor spoilers and no results follow.


"What's up Europe?" asks our co-host Andrey. "Hello everybody how is it going?" says Natalya. The second Semi Final has 19 songs (one more than the first Semi) competing for ten places in the Final. If there was a flurry of white costumes in the first Semi Final there are even more in the second.

From Moscow With Love!

The Welcome Party is over, final rehearsals are done and now Moscow is in readiness for the first of two Semi Finals for Eurovision 2009. 


The Semis will also give us the first sign of how the national juries will work. There are 18 countries vying for ten places. Nine will be chosen by televoting while the tenth spot will go to the country that placed the highest in the voting of the juries but missed out on televoting.

Camerawork may clinch the act

With just days to go before the first Semi Final, not everyone is happy with the Russian television coverage.


Final rehearsals have taken place at Olympiskyi Arena before full dress rehearsals get underway for the first of two Semi Finals, followed by press conferences. Some of the acts are coming to terms with how the television elements might affect their chances. Busy dance acts are not faring as well as the solo balladeers and there have been quite a few complaints.

Alsou and Ivan to host the Final!

With less than a week before the Semi Finals take place in Moscow, we finally have an announcement of hosts. With an extraordinarily late announcement by organisers it was beginning to feel like Putin himself may have to take centrestage for the big night.

Sam Pang loves the underdogs in Eurovision, even though he knows they will never get over the line.


"I love to keep an eye on the Semi Finals, just so I know what to expect at the Finals and see who I might support. And then I usually just vote for Portugal," says Sam Pang. "They've never won so I have a soft spot for them.
