Variety reports that Mike Nichols is set to direct a remake of Kurosawa's classic 1963 thriller High and Low, and he's got a high-calibre team of collaborators on board; the adaptation is being penned by David Mamet and the film is backed by Martin Scorcese as executive producer.

Dear Patti Smith, Thank you for being the headline act of The Melbourne International Arts Festival. For those of us not old enough to remember when it all began, with Horses in 1975, and who had never seen you perform live, we were particularly spoiled.
Great Gosh Almighty, this is good
A story of old age, chronic
illness and loss could so easily be given the Tuesdays with Morrie treatment and veer into over-sentimentality.
But with liberal doses of humour and a cast of genuinely engaging characters, Young@Heart strikes the perfect chord.
The Young@Heart chorus is renowned for its lively renditions of contemporary classics. Director Stephen Walker’s film follows the chorus members over seven weeks as they prepare for a one night only concert in their home town.
