Multicultural Marketing Awards Turns 20

04 November 2009 | 12:33 - By Thang Ngo

The National Multicultural Marketing Awards (NMMA) turns 20 this year.  Conceived by the Community Relations Commission of NSW from its humble beginnings in 1990, the Awards have grown to be one of the biggest events on the multicultural marketing calendar.

The Awards celebrate the achievements made in engaging and providing services to a culturally diverse Australia.

There are eight categories including the Grand Award which is presented to the most outstanding entry amongst the category award winners.  Award categories recognise excellence amongst large corporations, exporters, advertising agencies, government right through to community and non-profit sectors.

Last year’s Grand Award Winner was Cultural Perspectives for their massive and complex campaign for the Australian Electoral Commission during the last federal election.

This year has seen over 20% increase in the number of entries from across Australia.  I was privileged to be appointed a judge for this year’s Award and through that experience, appreciate the quantity and quality of entries.

Congratulations to all the entrants, finalists and winner of this year’s Awards which was announced at a gala ball on Monday night of this week:

Multicultural Marketing Awards

Multicultural marketing is much marginalised and often seen as something to be done in 'far far land' . These awards serve a function of highlighting possibilities for services and businesses; more importantly they show that multicultural marketing does have its place in life! Mainstream big corporations such as Woolworths, and Western Union Financial (previous winner) got recognised hopefully brings home these facts.

They're a pretty interesting company. The company describes itself as: "A boutique human resources consultancy specialising in multicultural resourcing and consulting to assist companies in their international expansion - be it Australian companies expanding overseas or foreign companies investing in Australia". Sounds interesting.
