WATCH RICKY MACOURT'S STORY

When I first saw Ricky Macourt I thought he looked too young to be an author. But not long after we began talking it made sense that this young man was on his way to achieve great things.

During our interview Ricky spoke about his big move from the country to the city. That’s something I definitely could relate to. Funnily enough we grew up in towns that were right next to each other on the north coast of NSW.

Six years ago when Living Black first spoke with Ricky he was at boarding school at St Joseph’s College in Sydney. Before heading to boarding school he admitted that he could hardly read and write.

Now he’s written his first novel. What a big transformation.

Becoming the first Aboriginal Prime Minister is a dream that Ricky has always had, and he’s determined to get there. Interviewing such an amazing young man was a privilege. I walked away inspired.

Inspiration is exactly what he wants to achieve through his new book. Based on his life it reveals tales of his school life and focuses on his struggle of identity. It’s great to see such inspirational young people out there and I hope to meet more great people like him.

ricky maccourt is a fake

I am a born and bred gumaynggirr man and I know ricky maccourt. He is a lying grub who has tried to steal my people's name. He has colour from his dad who's origin is from another counrty. He was not born in a mission. He does not even have confirmation of his aboriginality as he made it up. He has claimed on other sites to be a gumbaynggirr man. Congratulations Ricky, you took a scholarship that a true koori should have gained. Shame on you Living Black, You should have checked his background before accepting him for an interview. SHAME, SHAME, SHAME. [o] forever!

You do SJC proud!

You were at St Joseph's with my son. I remember when you were a little boy just starting off. You are truly inspirational and a wonderful role model for aboriginals. I look forward to the day when you become our first aboriginal PM! You are on the right path!

I can't wait to read the book. I knew Ricky and his parents when he was first born at Belmont, Newcastle, NSW. It's great to see how far he can go.
