Good sensations
Ben Day rides for Team Fly V Australia presented by Successful Living Foundation.
I can see now that I needed the Tour of California for my form at the Tour of California.
You can’t just go to without any races in your legs and expect to get results.
But I have come out of California well….really well. I feel great in training and I have had five wins since then.
The weekend after California I went to relax with my friend Johnathan
in Las Vegas for a few days and I competed in the Callville Bay
Classic, where I won the prologue and secured the overall GC.
After
that, I finally got to go home to Boulder, Colorado, a place I love
dearly, where I spent some quality time training hard and trying to get
my weight down.
And it worked! My numbers went up and my
weight went down and I started beating all the old training records
that I have had in Boulder in the past few years.
I put this down to going back to coaching myself.
During my career I have worked with some great coaches, all of whom brought different assets to the table.
Now I feel I have a great grasp of what a cyclist needs to do to go fast and to enjoy their cycling to the fullest.
This
is why I have turned my hand to coaching. I have worked with a couple
of athletes for the past year or so, but I recently launched my
business, DayByDay Cycle Coaching.
In
doing this, I have found that I am not only able to help others
progress through the sport, I am able to discover more things about
myself and to try little tweaks here and there.
Coaching and training is definitely an art, and there is no black and white training method for anyone.
So here we are. On the eve of the Redlands Bicycle Classic, a race with a long prestigious history in the US.
Redlands will see riders like BMC’s Jeff Louder and Scott Nydam, Neil
Shirley and 2007 winner Andy Bajadali of Kelly Benefits Strategies.
You can also add Bissell’s Ben Jacques-Maynes, OUCH’s Floyd Landis and Rory Sutherland, plus 2005 winner Chris Wherry.
I feel confident after winning a criterium in Boulder two weekends ago, and the San Dimas Stage Race just this past weekend.
In San Dimas my team Fly V Australia presented by Successful Living worked hard to defend my lead until the final stage.
I did just enough to claim overall race
honours from Jelly Belly’s Phillip Gaimon and Rock Racing’s Chris
Baldwin.
Our
Italian connection Alessandro Bazzana assured the San Dimas race would
be a lucrative affair for the team, racking up the sprint points over
the three days and the Green Jersey.
Jono Cantwell started to really show his true potential with a win in
the final criterium, after riding hard for me the whole stage.
His lunge on the line saw him beat out Sebastian Haedo (Colavita) for second and John Murphy (OUCH) for third.
As our Team
Director Henk Vogels said, “We knew he had the speed to be competitive at this level, he just needed to back himself.”
I hope to see us repeat some of this success here.
Team Fly V Australia are on a high. With all of the hard work put in, we are starting to go places.

Great blog and great news Ben. It's great to read your progress by way of a blog and I hope many Aussies come to support you guys (if not on live on location) on the internet. It seems it may not be too long before an Australian team is competing in the big races of Europe. At least we'll have a proper team to support
