Sergent claims Three Days of West Flanders

New Zealand neo-professional Jesse Sergent added a big win to his palmares claiming the Three Days of West Flanders overnight in what was a clean sweep for his RadioShack team.
An Post-Sean Kelly veteran Nico Eeckhout, 40, won the final stage in a mass sprint from Jimmy Casper (Saur-Sojasun) and Dominique Rollin (FDJ) in what was his 81st professional victory.
Sergent finished safely in the front group to secure the overall classification, which he did not relinquish after winning the opening 7km prologue.
Sebastien Rosseler and Michal Kwiatkowski joined Sergent on the final podium taking second and third overall, respectively.
All three were part of a front group that escaped 30km into the 195.5km race to Ichtegem and was not caught.
Sergent, a Commonwealth Games individual pursuit silver medalist, will maintain a dual focus on the track and road in the lead-up to the 2012 London Olympics.
He graduated from the Trek-Livestrong under-23 development program last year after winning the stage three of the 2010 Tour of Gila - a 26.6km time trial - ahead of Levi Leipheimer and David Zabriskie.
