The Amaury Sports Organisation (ASO), owners and organisers of the Tour de France, will team up with the Santos Tour Down Under for the distribution of the event’s international broadcast rights.
Tour de France Director Christian Prudhomme and ASO Media Director Julien Goupil will both head to South Australia to finalise the deal with event director Mike Turtur.
Turtur said he looking forward to hosting Prudhomme, who will spend three days in Adelaide.
“It will be fantastic for the Director of the Tour de France to be here in Adelaide during our race. We have invited Christian over the past few years so it is a coup to have him at this year’s event,” Turtur said.
The 2011 event received 284 hours of international and local television coverage but the ASO deal is expected to further expand that the event's global audience and reach.
Events South Australia holds the UCI license to the event through to the 2015 season.
The 2012 Santos Tour Down Under runs from from January 15 to 22.
