Sid Taberlay has won the Pure Tasmania Wildside MTB by the barest of margins after overcoming a puncture in the final kilometres of the 2012 event.

With Taberlay, Max Plaxton and Paul van der Ploeg fiercely battling it out for overall victory Taberlay punctured on a nail with 3km to go but opted to race on without repairing it.

The decision proved to be correct one and the former Olympian Taberlay’s two second winning margin is the smallest in the event’s storied history.

In the confusion of the manic conclusion around Strahan it was left to race director Nic Deka to advise Taberlay of his dramatic win upon crossing the finish line.

In the women’s race Jenni King took out overall honours ahead of Jessica Douglas by more than 20 minutes.
