Bradley Wiggins's historic victory on the Tour de France on Sunday (Monday morning AEDT) put Great Britain on the race's honour list for the first time.

A year after Australia became only the 12th nation to be represented on the winners' list thanks to Cadel Evans's victory, Great Britain becomes the 13th nation to make an appearance.

Throughout the 99 editions of the Tour, the countries to have won the race are:

France: 36

Belgium: 18

Spain: 12

United States: 10

Italy: 9

Luxembourg: 5

Netherlands, Switzerland: 2

Germany, Australia, Denmark, Republic of Ireland, Great Britain: 1
