Belgian squad Quick Step team have not renewed the contract of Australian sprinter Allan Davis, according to media reports.

Davis had joined Quick Step in 2008, but has reportedly been jettisoned due to team sponsorship changes.

The Australian enjoyed a successful 2009, winning the Tour Down under in January, finishing 2nd in Paris-Brussels and 4th at Milan-San Remo.

It is now unclear if the Australian will sign with a new ProTour team in time to defend his 2009 Tour Down Under crown.

It is believed his 2009 made Davis too expensive for Quick Step after major bike sponsor Specialized pulled out.

According to the reports, Quickstep director Patrick Lefevere is looking forward in the hopes of signing Tour de France champion Alberto Contador for the 2011 season.

There were rumours earlier this year that Davis could sign for Contador's current Astana team, but it is now suggested that he could ride for the Continental team V Fly Australia in 2010.

The Australian and US based Fly V, which employs Davis' brother Scott, has plans to become a Pro Continental team in 2011 which would see them eventually compete in Europe.

Davis has had a controversial relationship with Quick Step, missing out on 2009 Tour de France selection at the last minute in favour of team leader Tom Boonen.
