UCI announces suspension of Italian rider

Italy's Massimo Giunti has been provisionally suspended as a result ofan out of competition doping test taken February 23 the InternationalCycling Union (UCI) announced.
The 35 year old Giunti, who ridesfor the Italian Androni Giacatolli Pro Continental team, returned apositive 'A' sample for the blood booster EPO.
"This anomalousresult stems directly from a targeted urine test conducted because theblood profile in Mr. Giunti's biological passport seemed unusual, "saidthe UCI in a statement.
The provisional suspension remains inforce until a hearing panel convened by the Italian Cycling Federationdetermines whether Giunti has committed an anti-doping rule violationunder Article 21 of the UCI Anti-Doping Rules.
Giunti has the right to request and attend the analyses of his 'B' sample.
Thedecision to provisionally suspend Mr Giunti was made in response to areport from the WADA accredited laboratory in Lausanne, Switzerland.
