Cyclocross duo provisionally suspended for doping

Pawel and Kacper Szczepaniak, who won gold and silver in the under-23cyclocross world championships, have tested positive for EPO.

"TheUCI advised the Polish riders Pawel Szczepaniak and Kacper Szczepaniakthat they are provisionally suspended," the UCI said in a statement.

"Thedecisions to provisionally suspend Messrs Pawel and Kacper Szczepaniakwere made in response to reports from the WADA accredited laboratory inSeibersdorf indicating two Adverse Analytical Findings of RecombinantEPO in the urine samples collected from them at the UCI cyclo-crossworld championships."

Both riders, who were under suspicionbased on the biological passport progranmme, have the right to requestand attend the analyses of their B samples.

Pawel Szczepaniak beat his brother Kacper to take first place at the event in Tabor, Czech Republic, on January 30.

Theannouncement follows the similar suspension of Italy's Massimo Giuntiearlier this week. The 35 year old Giunti also returned a positive 'A'sample for the blood booster EPO.
