Under-23 national road champion. Hailed as Australian cycling’s next big thing. WorldTour pro for four years. Diagnosed with tachycardia. Retired. Malaysian road coach. GreenEDGE development coach. A cautious comeback. And now in his second year riding the National Road Series.
To say the least, it’s been an interesting last seven years for William Walker.
In this interview exclusive, he first tells Cycling Central’s Anthony Tan about the trials and tribulations he’s encountered on the road to recovery.
Later on, Walker makes his feeling about former Orica-GreenEDGE sport director Matthew White known, and answers the question, ‘Does a clean cyclist need an ex-doper to tell him not to dope?’
Tan also asks him about the prospect of riding at the highest level once again, and whether he would return to Orica-GreenEDGE, this time as a rider.
