Course Overview

Dakar is off to discover a new continent in 2009, and South America offers unlimited possibilities for off-road warriors in wide open spaces. Starting in the Argentine capital Buenos Aires, the round trip via Valparaiso on the Chilean coast is a challenge that will test the toughest riders, drivers and teams. Competitors will negotiate the Patagonia plains and the Atacama Desert as the course takes them from the Atlantic Ocean, across the Andes Mountains to the Pacific Ocean and back again in just 15 days. At almost 9,580 kilometres in total distance, of which 5,656 kilometres is Special Stage, Dakar 2009 is sure to be as exciting as ever.
