Peter Charley began his career as a cadet journalist on Australia's Sydney Morning Herald newspaper in 1975.
He later wrote for the Sydney Sun newspaper before moving to Sydney's Channel Seven as a news reporter and, later, as the newsroom's Chief of Staff.
Over the next several years, Peter lived and worked in New York City, reporting for National Public Radio and working for Sixty Minutes before joining the newly-created Fox Television network as Show Producer of the US-based weekly current affairs program, The Reporters.
Peter has also produced and directed documentaries for Discovery Channel International, the ABC, BSkyB in Britain and The Learning Channel in the United States.
Peter’s work as a journalist and producer has led to extensive international travel. He has worked from Asia, Africa, Europe, the UK, the Middle East, South America, the Caribbean, Central America, the South Pacific and North America.
His work has attracted international acclaim, including First Prize in the Johns Hopkins University's School of Advanced International Studies 'Novartis' Award, a New York Film Festival Silver Medal, a Walkley Award for Excellence in International Reporting and a Pater award for Excellence in Radio Reporting.
For seven years, Peter was Executive Producer of the ABC's Lateline program and he was the founding Executive Producer of the Lateline Business program.
He joined Dateline as Executive Producer in 2007.
