Giovana Vitola joined Dateline in 2010 with a report from her native Brazil on South America's largest prison, Brazil's Hellhole, where thousands of people live in squalor.
Giovana started her journalism career in Brazil, graduating at the age of 22, but quickly moved on in pursuit of international challenges. The starting point was New Delhi, where she freelanced for the BBC’s Portuguese service and Globonews, a 24 hour Brazilian news channel.
After time in Germany with Deutsche Welle and a year in Beijing working for China Radio International, Giovana moved to Sydney at the end of 2006 and joined SBS’s Portuguese Radio Service, before joining Dateline.
Since then, she has regularly travelled back to South America for the program, revealing many different sides of life there.
Giovana is currently living in Singapore and can speak Portuguese, Spanish, English, and is constantly studying Mandarin.
