David O'Shea reports from Tonga, where delegates have met for the Pacific Islands Forum.
In the wake of John Howard finally calling the election, last week's leader's meeting in Tonga virtually passed unnoticed.
But the gathering marked a turning point in our relations with our oceanic neighbours, given Australia’s self-styled big brother role in the region, it's not all that surprising that after Alexander Downer left the forum, new benefactors began distributing largesse, literally hundreds of millions of diplomatic dollars.
