Interview with Senaka Walgampaya

This week, Dateline speaks with the Sri Lankan High Commissioner to Australia, His Excellency Mr. Senaka Walgampaya, PC.

Following the alleged death of Tamil Tiger leader Velupillai Prabhakaran, Sri Lanka's government has declared victory in one of the world longest-running civil wars, but it faces fury from a Tamil diaspora which had wide sympathy for the rebels.

The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) launched a campaign in 1972 to create a separate Tamil homeland in the Sinhalese-majority island, with much of the group's funding coming from Tamils overseas.

There is now speculation that the territorial ambitions of the Tamils may re-emerge in guerilla-style attacks in Sri Lanka or overseas.
