Dateline's story about the increase in babies being born deformed and children developing cancer in Iraq has won a UN Media Peace Award.
Iraq's Deadly Legacy, by Fouad Hady and produced by Ashley Smith, was broadcast in August 2010 and investigated the possible links between the increased cases and the use of depleted uranium weapons against Iraq.
The story was the winner from three finalists in the TV Current Affairs category of the United Nations Association of Australia Media Peace Awards 2010. The UN says the awards 'seek to promote understanding and awareness about humanitarian and social justice issues'.
The winner was announced at a ceremony in Melbourne on 22nd October 2010.
