WikiLeaks Controversy

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, who Dateline’s Mark Davis profiled in May, is once again in the spotlight after the release of more than 250,000 classified cables between the US and its embassies around the world.

They reveal criticism of world leaders,
including America’s allies, and details of classified discussions on world issues between the US and senior politicians around the world.

The leaks have been condemned by the United States, amid calls for Australian-born Assange to be prosecuted for espionage. He has been arrested by authorities in the UK, but over the separate issue of rape allegations in Sweden.

The latest release follows WikiLeaks’ publication of 90,000 secret files about the Afghan War in July, when Mark Davis gained special behind-the-scenes access for Dateline.

WORLD NEWS AUSTRALIA – Get the latest on the leaks and Julian Assange’s arrest from SBS’s World News Australia.
