When the earthquake and tsunami struck Japan, Dateline immediately sent producer Aaron Thomas to Tokyo to coordinate our coverage of the disaster.
He worked with a local video journalist, Toshi Maeda, who took a personal journey to the disaster zone, which by then was also at the centre of a nuclear emergency.
It was a quick turnaround for a Dateline story, with travel, filming and editing all to be arranged in a short period of time, and safety issues to be addressed on location.
Follow the story through the eyes of Aaron, Executive Producer Peter Charley and Production Coordinator Claudianna Blanco, who lived and worked in Japan for many years and felt personally affected by the disaster.
