Dateline has won a United Nations Association of Australia Media Peace Award and had two nominations in this year's Walkley Awards.

Video journalist Yaara Bou Melhem, and producers Geoff Parish and Garry McNab, took the UN TV Current Affairs prize, and were nominated in the International Journalism category of the Walkleys, for a series of reports called Revolutions: Rise and Fall.

Saving Syria, Inside Syria’s War and Lawless Libya looked at the turbulent politics in Syria and Libya, gaining access to key people and places unseen by other Western journalists during the Arab Uprising. Yaara also won a UN Award last year for reports from Syria and Bahrain.

Also nominated in the TV Current Affairs category at the UN Awards were reporter Yalda Hakim, cameraman Ryan Sheridan, producers Peter Charley and Garry McNab, and fixer Abdul Basir Bina, for Anatomy of a Massacre.

The story investigated the murder of 17 Afghan civilians, allegedly by a rogue US soldier. The team was able to gain unprecedented access to witnesses and investigators to piece together what happened.

The UN winners were announced at a ceremony in Melbourne on Friday 26th October, with SBS taking four awards in total.

Meanwhile in the Walkleys, video journalist Aaron Lewis was also a finalist for Best Broadcast Camerawork for his story Orchestra of Dreams. He filmed and reported on the success of a symphony orchestra established in the slums of São Paulo in Brazil to help young people out of poverty.

The Walkley Awards also included SBS nominations for the TV series Once Upon a Time in Cabramatta and online documentary The Block: Stories from a Meeting Place about the history of Aboriginal culture and activism in Sydney's Redfern, which ultimately took the prize for Best Coverage of Indigenous Affairs.

The Walkley winners were announced at a ceremony in Canberra on Friday 30th November, which was also broadcast on SBS ONE.
