Electric Cars

Further to my previous submission re diesel/electric vehicles. If you have a purely electric car the CO2 cost in OZ by using our highly polluting coal to provide the electricity negates the benefits of not using petrol, and there is still the cost of purchase/disposal of the batteries and a 2nd hand hybdid will be worth nothing because of the battery issue. The taxpayers had M$40 wasted by Rudd, given to Toyota (for Gods sake) to reinvent the Prius but in a dull Camry cover. What a crock

Yes or No

China is now at a love or hate state. Most manufacturers in the world have their facilities or OEM factories in China to produce their own branded products for the world-wide demand. This of course causes more pollution to China, and yes of course they didn't have good enough environmental control (often required lots of money to build those facility), but that is also why Made in China product can be more price competitive. Also, Quality Control = more cost, would manufacturer's want more cost?

well i'm offended by it

reds is a derogative term used to describe communists. Now, you may not like communism, but there are plenty of people that do.. but that's beside the point, whether you hate it or love it, there is no need to use such condescending terms whose purpose, originally, was derogative, and the fact that you are using it for stylistic effect or in a joking manner does not change that. .

jane, it is America that is the biggest polluter in the world as a country and even more so on a per capita basis. china, while certainly a major polluter, is a country with an enormous population, and a country that is certainly not on the list of those that are not going green, but could do so with comparable easily (i am referring to the likes of america, and indeed australia (which, by the way, is one of the worst polluters on the per capita basis)).

for those complaining about chinese goods, i don't see how it relates, but what do you expect? they cost next to nothing, so it is reasonable that their quality is not exactly top-notch. if you don't like them don't buy them! we are to blame, we buy the cheaper products, destroying any chances of good quality producers staying if busyness, and then we have the nerve to complain... I hardly think that the chinese working for a couple cents a day (or however much) are to be blamed

wow, so much anti-chinese sentiment... all they are doing is making a clean-energy car people, it's not an atomic bomb... with the size of their population and the fact that most chinese are far from rich, we should be applauding them for actually doing something... countries like china, india etc. at least have an excuse for not going green; what's our excuse? what's the excuse of america etc.? maybe it's that the billionaires won't earn as much for a couple of years?

wow, petra, nazi germany? it's exactly that kind of hyper-exaggeration and xenophobia that gave rise to nazi germany... watch out for china? is that right? well you know what, i have a feeling that a new boss on the world stage, whatever she does, couldn't possibly be as bad as the current one. it's time for change. i think the world has seen just about enough of the 'bastion of democracy' and the exceptionally warlike 'peacemaker' that is america

low intellect

@ Don d be much more impressed if they built some state of the art electric locomotives. I'd be even more impressed if Australian engineers and manufacturers beat them to it. I mean, what are we going to do for a living when our last mines close? Ans: Hand Australia back to the natives and go back to europe. I mean what has australia made apart from Vegemite? Don't u get it? Aussies are mentally dull. You along with the murdoch press can give as much lollies to the public but the truth is bitter
