Stop Sri Lanka's Extermination of Tamils

From: Sydney

As with every other Crime committed against the Tamil minority, the perpetrators (Sinhalese) have been allowed to getaway

The burning of Jaffna Public Library, regarded by Tamils as an act of cultural vandalism, was a deliberate destruction of 97,000 books, considered as the best collection of Tamil literature in Asia, including many irreplaceable manuscripts. Gamini Dissanayake (a Sinhalese MP), is alleged to have been the person responsible for the burning of Jaffna Public Library in June 01, 1981, by Sri Lankan (Sinhalese) police.

PLEASE HELP

From: Sydney

You can 'rebuild' a Library to hide the truth. But you can't 'rebuild' or restore lives lost

The Jaffna Public Library was rebuilt using money from Tamils (also?). The burning of the library is nothing when you compare it to the thousands of Tamils slaughtered brutally in the last one year. The actual number of Tamils savagely attacked and killed by the Sri Lanka Army is close to 50,000. The total of Tamil lives lost in this genocidal war by the SL State is more than 250,000 Tamils. Yet, the Sri Lankan Govt is allowed to getaway with murder! see website > myspace.com/helpsavetamils

Timeline of the civil war in Sri Lanka

The Toronto Star's "Timeline of the civil war in Sri Lanka" is grossly inadequate and will probably serve to increase animosity of Canadian public to Tamils. The BBC did a slightly better job with their "Timeline: Sri Lanka" but it's Australia that scores best with this SBS Dateline "Culture Clash" profile of May 31, 1981 Jaffna Library destruction.

Cowardly or Sinister - Sri Lankan cabinet ministers

This is the only western expose on what really caused the LTTE to find widespread support from Tamils. You need to understand how much pride Sri Lankans of all ethnicity take in their high literacy level. That two Sinhalese cabinet ministers stood and watched the vandalism unfold without doing anything to stop the Sinhalese policeman involved has been construed as government complicity. This view was reaffirmed by the celebratory greeting of the minsters on their return to Colombo.

HELP SAVE TAMILS

From: North sydney

Sri Lanka's War on Tamils

Now that the SL State / Sinhalese are sure that they have wiped out the guardians of the Tamil people, the Tamil Tigers, the Armed Forces of Tamils, it no longer has an excuse to slaughter Tamils. Or so we hope. But the unfortunate reality will be that, the SL state will continue to arrest, torture and kill Tamils saying that they are LTTE sympathisers, supporters or potential 'terrorists'. Our struggle for Freedom with Justice is not over yet. If anything, this is a New Beginning!

The enlighten

The problems of the Tamil people have to be addressed. They have been denied their rights and have been discriminated since British left in 1948. The US, EU and the UN should ensure that the Tamil people's rights are guaranteed. Also, there should be justice for the innocent civilians killed. The Sri Lankan authorities should be tried for the crimes they have committed against humanity (i.e., bombing hospitals, using heavy weapons against civilians, etc).
