I was a victim, too

I have been out of the Army since 1976 but my nightmare is still not over. In addition to the PTSD, I have gone through Hell fighting with the VA for a service-connected disability. I was granted a non-compensable service-connected disability for a medical condition. The comments made by the man who handled my case were shocking and hurtful! Also, a program I went through at the urging of my Mental Health Adviser was used against me in his final determination. This is a never ending nightmare.

MILITARY PROTECT'S WOMEN WITHIN?

MY SISTER WAS MOLESTED BY MY FATHER AND YES IT WAS WHILE HE WAS IN THE NAVY STATIONED ABOARD A AIRCRAFT CARRIER. HE ALSO WAS AN ALCHOHOLIC. HIS PUNISHEMENT? NOTHING FOR WHAT HE DID TO MY SISTER, ONLY REHAB AT BATHESDA MARYLAND MILITARY HOSPITAL. THIS IS HORRIBLE!!!! I AM JUST SO ANGRY STILL, TO THIS DAY! NO ONE PROTECTED MY SISTER! NO ONE CONSIDERED WHAT THE AFTER AFFECTS WOULD BE. NO ONE THOUGHT ABOUT HER!! IT'S LIKE THE MILITARY TOTTALY IGNORED WHAT WAS CLEARLY TOLD TO THEM.

Thank you for coverng this story. Shame on the United States and the Army. Mr. Johnson, stay with the fight! Fight for your daughter! I spent 14.9 years in the Army. I almost got raped by my 1st Sergeant. I screamed, he ran. I never toId-I was the only female in my unit. I was lucky. I am so very sad & hurt for your daughter & you but especially for your wife. You see we carry them for 9 months inside of us - but we carry them for the rest of our lives in our hearts. Congress fix this!!!!

A Double Standard

Good for you for doing this story. But also, a major stuff up on your part. How come you didn't mention anything about guys in the military who are raped? They have some of the same problems as women survivors do. But for some reason it's what, illegal (for lack of a better phrase?) to publically speak about this? Why not a followup on guy survivors?
