How You Can Help Orangutans

There is much that you and I can do to directly assist these beautiful creatures. To assess alternatives that may suit you best visit the website of the australian orangutan project www.orangutan.org.au. This volunteer organisation is very proactive and would love your support and input.

This has to stop!

What will the next 10 years bring? NO ORANGUTANS!!! This orangutan is not a toy to be played with anytime, but should living in the forest wild and free. But the forest is being destroyed by migrant labourers and greed and we as human beings should put a stop to this. As you can see from comments listed no one has disagreed with what has been said, so why can't the governments both here and Indonesian listen. Check out what the Australian Orangutan Project is doing in assisting IAR with their efforts to save the orangutans; they are even supplying the funds for the rescue center and facilities seen on the show. For more information on how you can help visit www.orangutan.org.au . Your voice and help is needed to help save the forest and the orangutans.

Palm oil industry

Patches of rain forest are not good enough to maintain forest biodiversity, the patches need to be joined so that it becomes a corridor, allowing animals to move from one area to another. Indonesian companies and their government CANNOT be trusted, so all palm oil sales should stop & be banned until permanent surveillance can show they are no longer a threat to allocated rainforest reserves. I rarely buy anything manufactured in Indonesia.

Orang Utan horror.

The Dateline program of the inhumane treatment of Indonesians to the Orang Utans of Borneo shocked and deeply saddened me. Such TV programs should be introduced into the school curriculum of all Australian schools wether Primary or Secondary. It is a way of shocking parents and politicians into awareness and action. If a survey of schoolchildren were taken, I believe it would show that the majority of them were viewing trashy 'fun' programs with trashy advertising breaks. I am amazed that no religious organizations are as shocked as I am at the immorality of such dreadful human behaviour.

Orang utan, palm oil & illegal logging in Kalimantan

To be fair, the information I have heard so far is that 70% of Australia's forest has been destroyed to make way for sheep, cattle, wheat etc. since European settlement. As a result, a great number of native fauna and flaura have become extinct, including the Tasmanian tiger. The impact on indigenous people is yet to be assessed. After 31/2 centuries of colonialism, Indonesians are only now enjoying their resources (including palm oil). Kalimantan is large enough to retain forest for orang utans

LABEL PALM OIL CONTENT OF FOOD ITEMS

The presentation on 26th April stressed the sustainability of palm plantations. This distracts attention from the health effects of ingesting palm oil: obesity, high cholesterol diseases (coronary artery disease, diabetes, hypertension Your news-reader Janice Petersen made a comment some few months ago that palm oil was bad for the health of orangutans but OK for humans; it is just as bad for humans. Margarine = cholesterol effect.

Carelessness, selfish greed causes extinction of species, soon Orangutans if we do not act now

Palm oil, and product made containing it should be banned from entering Australia. The destruction of Orangutans' habitat, and their subsequent extinction, the impact on the ecosystem, unhealthy highly saturated palm oil calls caring people to get involved, organized, and inform others about ethical and moral treatment of other species, that also have impact on our own ie climate change, human overpopulation diminishing natural resources leading to crime conflicts desperation infectious disease

You can help

I have been following the progress of this story for 2 years and am happy to see more publicity. I have done alot of work eliminating Palm Oil from my home, and it has been very difficult because Sodium Lauryl (and Laureth) sulfate is derived from Palm oil. I have found brands of shampoo, soap, washing and dishwashing liquid derived from coconut oil as a surfectant. I email the folks at orangutans.com if I find something new. I adopted a ranga called Carlos in Indonesia. Boycott palm oil, I say!
