i think more funding should be given by the british government. too much historial information is being lost both on land and in transcribing for family historians. my greatgrandfather thomas scollay was born on westray in 1852 as was his father robert scollay and his wife ellen stout before him, to see where he lived and the enviroment that surrounded him was fantastic. very good coverage and story

Time & Tide (Orkney Islands)
My wife visited the Orkney Islands in Sept.09 to experience the home of my ancestors. My grandfather build Links House Birsay in 1913-1916 (featured in your opening segment) & this was my father's home until he left Orkney at age 15. My family has had farms on Orkney since the Norwegian Earls' occupation & still farm there today. I visited as a young boy & wonder how many of my ancestors will be unearthed in the current 'digs' or lost to the sea forever. Fascinating viewing more followups please

Just many thanks to the makers of this film: Each year Orkney receives thousands of international visitors, including Australians (some of whom have Orkney roots). The portrayal in this film of the beauty and tragedy that is Scotlands, world class and disappearing heritage is first class. Check out the Heritage website link under resources to see the latest news of discoveries.

Great story. Thank you. I'm just back from the UK. Five days on Orkney merely scratched the surface (excuse the pun) of this extraordinary place. The new dig on the Ness of Brodgar is turning up amazing material as I write. Would love to hear more about Orkney. It is a truly remarkable place. I can't wait to get back.
