Christchurch Earthquake

Hey, you have no idea how strong the Canterbury spirit is. I found some of your comments negative and that parts of your coverage was focused on the negative. I am one of those Christchurch people that doesn't wish to live any where else . I LOVE CANTERBURY :)

Will it be my home in the future?

Talk of rebuilding or not is out of place (and often just insensitive politicising). People will choose: to stay or leave or leave and come back. In the future others will see opportunities and move to Christchurch. But let's burry the dead and grieve first, before throwing together plans for a new Christchurch. What ever Christchurch becomes it must include respect in very many ways for those who have died and all that's been lost in this catastrophe. You have my sympathy, Cantabrians.

"Darkest Day"

Congratulations SBS and David Brill on a balanced and sensitive interview, the commercial networks should send their up and coming/existing so called journalists/reporters to learn off David how to conduct an interview.Having next of kin in and originating from ChCh and looking at just about every bulletin it was calming to see different pictures and the sensible asking of questions in interviews.Thank you David stay with SBS, dont be tempted by other networks, well done.

An earthquake will not keep me away.

I love my home town of Christchurch - I always feel happy there. When this happened I thought how can I ever go back, but after speaking to my brother living there, it was confirmed, of course I will still go back. How can you stay away from such a beautiful place. My thoughts are with everyone in Christchurch everyday. It will be very sad to see ChCh in ruins, but it is still a beautiful city and will be again. I will still go and walk The Port Hills and wandering beautiful New Zealand.

Christchurch's second earthquake within 6 months.

St Johns Church where I my brothers and sisters sang, has been damaged. The buildings opposite where my parents made wages cleaning are hollow. The CTV building (round the corner) collapse is being questioned. My cousins son a witness to the Christchurch Cathedral spire falling on people has us all shaken. David Brill is correct in what he said, the City has changed and will take years to recover. He is also correct in saying how Cantabrians are tough and will rebuild, onya David.

My home

Even though I haven't lived in Chch for over 20 years, makes it no less my home town. I am a true Canterburian through and through. My family is devastated by this and are finding it hard to deal with. I feel bad that i sit here and watch this happening, and yet my family are living in this nightmare. I feel so helpless, and useless. I look at all these pictures and I know ever place. I go home probably once a year to see family and friends. Not sure when I will be going back. I love Chch

Christchurch will be better than before!

David Brill, has stated that Christchurch will never be like it was before, the tourists will not return. This kind of talk is totally rediculous. Lets look at other places where devastating earthquakes have occured, are those places now ghost towns? Do tourists not go to these places today? Christchurch will rebuild after this event, Christchurch will be bigger and better after this event and things will return to normal just like they have in the other great cities around the world.

Re build???

My heart goes out to all who have endured this quake. Rebuild - seriously. In reality.. what kind of structure would you build knowing that this WILL happen again -after all you are sitting on shaky ground it is alive. Cant trust it. Ok so rebuild - not more than two storys high in timber/stucco. When it comes down again it will be faster and easier to find people trapped. Insurance? forget it. ..why not rebuild a new CC colonial style away from fault lines - now is the opportunity.
