No amount of Money is worth this Destruction!
It is hard to know the whole story in such a short doco, but it makes my blood boil to see a western mining company trash a river and people. How grossly negligent, arrogant and no amount of money can be worth the destruction of a river and the surrounding ecosystems. Live free. Praise the proud people of Bouganville who fought this mining company! Don't let your land and people be treated with such disrespect. This company needs to understand the word NO! The world is not a giant mine to pilage

Bouganville
Rio Tinto should be disgraced at what they have done to such a beautiful land i once knew. They should stop being so greedy and pay up to the people of the land or get lost. And that goes for all those mining giants that try to rule countries with money.

Crime Against Mother Earth
When money is involved, little humanity remains in him ... I think that Bougainville is perhaps the last place in the world can be saved from the greed of the great murderers of white collar, the report has been risky Congratulations to Brian! Here in Mexico the large mining from Canada and the USA. have appropriated the wealth of our ground, kept in poverty to their workers, families and villages.

Cry My Beloved Bougainville Island
Bougainville Island is a very pristine place, beautiful and very peaceful before the crisis. I remember, being a young woman obviously enjoyed the late nite parties and could walk home at 2-3am alone and nothing would happen to me. This was how peaceful it was until the crisis and I had to leave immediately with only a few belongings. Just as well I did because after I left things got worse and people were shot trying to escape. I escapedwith my life but m longing to see you again, my island

Thanks for the story
Thank you, Brian and SBS, for putting this story together. I spent 18 months on Bougainville as a child, so I got to experience it's beauty first-hand. It was very sad to see the destruction and sorrow caused by the civil war in the time after my family left. I really do hope that the Bougainvilleans get a better deal this time if the mine is re-opened, and that more care is taken to protect the beautiful environment in which they live.

Peace or Money!
Such a beautiful and nature-rich land but destroyed by the greed of the few who hold power. I hope we learn from the Bougainville crisis; I fear more deaths and misappropriation with the LNG projects. We need to vote carefully in the next national elections. Save our beautiful country and people with your vote!
