Why does your reporting not make mention of the Chinese ethnicity of the Shinawatra family?

It has long struck me that journalists either are unaware of or choose to ignore the issue of Chinese ethnicity in political and social affairs in SE Asia. With the ethnic Chinese--of which the Shinawatra family is one of the wealthiest and most powerful examples--comprising only 14% of the Thai population, it is remarkable and surely newsworthy that they are able to hold so much sway over Thai politics. Why do you ignore this in reporting on the election? Shallow journalism!

Thai election

My colleague and I are developing a film on the Thai political crisis and how it has effected the ordinary Thai people. He is also there now covering the elections and what happens afterward. We are hoping to get a sense of how people from different parts of the country and different social strata feel about the democratic process in Thailand and if it is working for them. I look forward to Datelines coverage of the election.
