I agree with Michael that the minister was not capable of answering the questions in a professional manner. Question: Why is the Sri Lankan government trying to stop people leaving the country on boat? Answer: Just like drug trafficking is illegal, people trafficking is an illegal trade. People's lives are put at risk by people smugglers for their benefit. Any responsible government should do everything in its power to curb such trade. Just as drug possession or usage is a reason for prosecution the people who pay the smugglers to be illegally smuggled to another country are prosecuted. Failure to act on such issues will encourage illegal trade and will put human lives in danger.

Laughable
I found several of the comments made this minister quite absurd. The reporter quite correctly pointed out the fact that if the tamil minority were happy to be in the country, why were they leaving? An adequate explanation was not given for why the tamils were leaving en masse.
