Renewable Home

There’s certainly no shortage of people around the world recycling rubbish to build their homes, and generally trying to make their houses more eco-friendly…

Built from Trash
is an entire website telling the story of a house in the United States built primarily from old tyres, newspaper and bottles.

18 tonnes of recycled plastic could create the home of your dreams, thanks to a company in Swansea, UK.

Meanwhile, German company Wall AG has developed a prefabricated house made from recycled paper and costing only $US5000. It’s designed to help those in developing countries and displaced by disaster.

But as well as recycling, some homes like Penney Poyzer's in Nottingham, UK also reuse rainwater and try and reduce energy consumption.

Garbage Warrior Michael Reynolds
in New Mexico, USA is the subject of a film about evolving the way we live to include recycled and eco-friendly homes. His idea of Earthships also has a following in Australia.

The ECO group in North Carolina, USA is an entire community of ‘smarter’ homes and they're encouraging more people to do the same.

And a new house in Kamloops, Canada, is said to be so environmentally friendly, it's predicted to have an electricity bill of zero.

Or how about following the progess of a UK couple, converting a 1960's house to use only renewable energy for heat and power.

Then there's the matter of interior design... an artist in Argentina used six million bottles to make his walls.

And if you also want to finish off your house with some art... the Texas Sunflower Project uses bits of old satellites to make its sculptures!
