Archival/documentary footage can be seen as a concrete reminder of a film’s relationship to the real, be it Ari Folman's animated documentary Waltz With Bashir which powerfully incorporates footage from the Lebanon War in Beirut; or Robert Connolly’s drama Balibo which integrates archival newsreel footage taken by the actual Balibo Five.

Today news broke that a Weinstein backed 90-minute television drama, SEAL Team Six: The Raid on Osama bin Laden will splice documentary footage of President Obama into the film set to screen two days before the national election. Those opposing the Weinstein-backed film cite politics as dictating the decision to heroicise the President’s role in the Navy Seal operation that ultimately claimed the life of Bin Laden so close to the election.
