This year’s DOCNYC, New York's documentary festival, includes a Short List section  — 10 films which have been "earning plaudits and attention both on the festival circuit and in theatres."

Some of the films have already screened at festivals in Australia and the US. SBS has spoken to a number of these filmmakers. Here’s a list of our interviews: Emad Burnat and Guy Davidi’s 5 Broken Cameras, Alison Klayman’s Ai Wei Wei: Never Sorry, Rory Kennedy’s Ethel, Bess Kargman’s First Position and Malik Bendjelloul’s Searching for Sugar Man.
