7:30pm - The Heart of Eurovision with Julia Zemiro

SBS ONE

Sweden is The Heart of Eurovision - the Valhalla of music, the creator of ABBA and the dominant force in the Eurovision Song Contest since 1958. Join Julia Zemiro in her zippy campervan as she takes us on a 4,000km pilgrimage towards the heart in Malmö, Sweden.

On the journey Julia meets the artists and fans of the New Europe, former Communist countries such as Poland, the Ukraine, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia (the ones that always block vote against the UK!). She encounters legendary Eurovision artists in their native lands, from heavy metal monsters Lordi in Finland to the cross-dressing Verka Serduchka in the Ukraine. In Sweden, birthplace of the ultimate Eurovision act ABBA, Julia will make her way to the island of Viggso, the songwriting home of the superswedes. There she’ll ignite her inner fan-girl and try to get as close to ABBA as laws will allow.

Where is Julia now? Click here to follow the journey!
