Synopsis: Based on the true story of Ramon Sampedro (Javier Bardem), who was left a quadriplegic after a swimming accident some 28 years prior. Ramon later attempts to win the right to an assisted suicide through the courts. Following a lengthy and mostly unsuccessful struggle, Ramon decides to take matters into his own hands with some help from a voluntary euthanasia group and grudging loved ones.

Close up cinematography drags the viewer into Ramon's consciousness to feel his despair.
