Synopsis: The needless deaths of young men in car crashes linked to drug and alcohol abuse are an open wound in rural Australia, fracturing families and communities, and leaving behind scars that never heal.Scattered across the North West Coast of Tasmania are roadside memorials to those who have died in their cars. They are often well maintained over many years by those who wish to remember, those who inside their homes hold far more intimate memorials to the lives of their loved ones.Drive is a film about identity. It is about the rites of passage of young men as they reach seventeen and eighteen years of age, running hot on a mix of naivety, anticipation, fear and courage. Drive will hold a mirror to this experience and to the fundamental experience of every young man striving to be someone. In Australia, road crashes are the biggest killer of young men aged 18-25. Of all the states of Australia, Tasmania has the highest rate of road fatality. This film was made with young men on the North West Coast of Tasmania to find out why.
