Eid al-Fitr

16th August 2011 | 03:06 AET

Eid ul-Fitr is a three-day Muslim celebration which translates as "festival of fast-breaking". It marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan, in which Muslims abstain from eating during sunrise to sunset.

On the first day of this festival, Muslims dress in their finest outfits, attend a special Eid prayer at their local mosque, and donate money or food to the poor. After fasting for a month, Muslims celebrate by eating extravagant meals with family and friends.
