In our family, (Chinese-Malaysian, with every family member married/dating to someone of a different culture/race/etc, a WORLD EMBASSY as my late grandpa said) We show our love though FOOD...through the barriers of culture, language, age, religion - when we sit at the table - our common love of food brings us closer as a family. I wish that instead of being materialistc and money oriented - we could all sit down to a meal and make peace with the world and each other

Macca's comment is very true and it is unfortunate that everything is about money in China. Since Western invasion of China 200 years ago, money has become increasingly important, because of the poverty and suffering they have had to endure. As a Hong Kong Chinese, I would say, it is very unfortunate because old Chinese values - friendliness, love, humility,are replaced by Western values,selfishness,separatism, money etc. Westerners play a part, to some extent, in shaping our actions today.

This girl says marriage has to be based on money, what can one say other than "gold digger' What ever happened to marrying for love?. many Chinese women have this thinking though, my own sister in-law is a classic example, her whole life revolves around how much money her husband(an aussie) can make even though he is killing himself with 90 hour weeks.
