Dutch apple turnovers with typical Dutch spices are quick and easy to make and can be eaten warm or cold on the same day.
Geert Elzinga from Sydney’s Essen restaurant recommends that sweet rather than tart apples are used so that not much sugar has to be added.
Ingredients
2 sweet apples1 tbs raisins
1 tsp cinnamon
2 tbs sugar
2 tbs lemon juice
12 pieces puff pastry from the freezer
Egg yolk for brushing
Preparation
Peel and slice apples to ½ cm thickness.Mix apple slices with lemon juice, sugar, cinnamon and raisins in a bowl.
Cut the puff pastry sheets into 4 pieces each.
Place apple mixture in the middle of the puff pastry sheets and brush the edges with egg yolk.
Fold sheets in half and brush top with egg yolk.
Make sure to press the edges down firmly.
Bake in oven for 20 minutes at 200°C.
