Hanuman
Hanuman
Holiday Inn Esplanade
93 Mitchell St
Darwin NT 800
Phone: (08) 89413500
After many years in the same location, Hanuman upped sticks at the end of 2007 and moved to an even more fabulous venue in the heart of thriving Mitchell Street. Its new possie (within the Holiday Inn Esplanade) has kept the old Hanuman's distinctly Asian-style decor, but now features the alfresco glamour of a large atrium. This takes full advantage of Darwin's sultry tropical climate, while the air-conditioned interior offers a chilled alternative for those who find their mascara melting in the humidity.
Although the venue has changed, the food at Hanuman is still as consistently magnificent as ever - if they weren't before, bookings are now absolutely essential. Hanuman continues to go from strength to strength, clearly holding the ultimate title of gastronomic must-do for visitors to Darwin. Its distinctive combination of Thai, Indian and Nonya cuisine has a reputation with discerning diners all over the country.
The menu features a few familiar favourites - meals such as massaman beef curry and tandoori prawns, which can't be taken off the menu without an uproar - but it's worth delving into Hanuman's more adventurous dishes. Among the more unusual sounding meals are such highlights as the mouth-watering meen molee of wild barramundi fillets cooked with turmeric, fresh curry leaf and coconut; and the pork belly cooked Teo Chiu Chinese style.

Hot Tips
Spice it up
It pays to sort through your spices at least every six months and throw out any that are past their use-by date. Replacing them with fresh spices will make all the difference to an Indian or Cape Malay curry.
Glossary
Florets
Florets are the small, individual flower stems that make up the heads of vegetables such as broccoli and cauliflower.
