This quiet and classy French restaurant in suburban Hobart has made a name for itself by serving consistently great food, with servings coming in generous sizes. Chef Jean-Claude Rival was classically trained in Paris, so all the dishes are made from scratch by the man himself, as the kitchen has no apprentices. There are three dining rooms, each with a different trompe l'oeil dancing across the walls. Some of the stand-out dishes include a hot duck pate with brioche, an eye fillet with bearnaise sauce and a sinful creme caramel.

Hot Tips
Saffron thread
Grind the saffron thread with some salt in a mortar and pestle until it is like a fine powder. It will be distributed through the paella evenly giving a better colour and flavour to the finished dish.
Glossary
Candle Nuts
Candle Nuts look similar to a macadamia: round, creamy and with high oil content – they’re normally used to thicken sauces. Common in South East Asian cooking.
