Repeat after me: Mexican cuisine is so much more than tacos and nachos. Thankfully, Mexicali Rose is one of the few places that realises this and serves up a wonderful array of south-of-the-border dishes. And after a recent expansion, the restaurant that's been faithfully serving up those delicacies for 30 years now boasts a Mexican bar, which is proving to be a popular spot for pre- or post-dinner margaritas. The restaurant's interior is quaint and cosy, with just the right amount of Mexican kitsch to provide a homely, fun atmosphere.

Layer celery stalks on base of tajine before filling with meats etc. This acts as a trivet, lifting the meat off the base of the dish and prevents burning.
