While not a restaurant per se, the Manly Wharf Hotel is a massive bar and lounge venue that offers nourishing bar meals to wolf down with your mates. The harbour bar, main bar and jetty bar are where the sunshine and ocean views pour in, so naturally they're all great spots for groups having a lark over foodie favourites like beer-battered fish and chips, black Angus rumps and spicy pepperoni pizzas. The bamboo-laden lounge bar is one for the cooler nights, featuring two open fireplaces, comfy banquette seating and a couple of pool tables, proving that you can most certainly have a good time without the sunshine.

Hot Tips

Rescuing burnt garlic

Burning garlic will make it taste bitter and unpalatable, however if you do burn your garlic while heating it in olive oil (the basis of so many French and Italian meals) simply strain out the garlic pieces - the oil will have taken on much of the flavour of the garlic already and will impart this through your dish.

Glossary

Vegetable shortening

A vegetarian alternative to lard often used in baking and when basting meat.
