Chianti's may not be the biggest restaurant space in Darwin, but in every other respect it specialises in all things big. It's big on service, serves enormous portions on big triangular plates, plus their wine glasses almost need two hands. Alfresco people-watching on lively Mitchell Street is another attraction, unless you prefer the air-conditioned comfort inside, where the Darwin heat is left at the threshold. The Italian/seafood-based menu has some rich dishes on offer but on the lighter side, the marinated beef and mango salad is a very popular choice. It's only fitting to match your meal with a bottle of Italy's famous regional wine after which the restaurant is named. On your way in, take note of the display cabinet of desserts and make an extra effort to save some room for the splendid offerings, complemented by outstanding coffee. And yes, the dessert servings are big.
