Bodega has strutted as confidently as a puffed-up matador onto the Surry Hills restaurant scene, with a menu of rustic Spanish and South American food. With a bar next door, people can pop in for a cocktail and some nibbles, or sit down at the restaurant for a casual feast of tapas. The tiny room is dominated by a large communal table (big enough to cover with a sizeable selection of tapas) and a funky, fanciful mural of a chest-heavy bull.

The tapas-only menu features a selection of familiar Spanish flavours along with some innovative twists on rustic dishes. Those craving Spanish quarter favourites can tuck into empanadas or plates of chorizo, while the more adventurous can sample kurobuta butifarra (white sausage) with fried egg and chicharrones (fried prok rinds). Finish off with a dessert such as the luscious chocolate terrine with cava jelly, fresh fig and yoghurt ice cream, or just sit back with another glass of vino from the exclusively Spanish and South American wine list.

Hot Tips

Keep your cool

If you’ve bitten off more chilli than you can handle, eating a small spoonful of sugar or adding a little to the dish should do the trick. Drinking water will actually make the situation worse! Cucumber, yoghurt or an ice-cold beer are also good rescue remedies.

Glossary

Dried Shrimp
