The Cage

The Cage
129 Fitzroy St
St Kilda VIC 3182
Phone: (03) 95343776

The Cage is captivating the St Kilda cool crowd with a veritable United Nations of menu items. The menu, which can really best be described as eclectic, includes an unusual combination of home-style Italian, Casalingan and Indian cuisines, migrating toward lighter tapas dishes with a Spanish and Cuban influence. As a result, diners can sup on anything from crispy calamari to minestrone and pasta con verdure with lentils, beans, garlic and tomatoes; or beef madras and Goan-influenced chicken vindaloo with a chilli kick.

This is one cosy cage with retro brown leather settees, bar and booth-style seating and posters advertising local events adorning the walls below antique pressed ceilings. The small and often busy space can get a little warm in summer months, so be thankful for the ceiling fans and the large front windows, which open out to Fitzroy Street and a bunch of funky kerbside tables.
