Everyone loves a good curry and Gharana, located in picture-perfect Albert Park, has just given you a reason to enjoy it even more. Meaning 'prestigious house' in Urdu, this joint has set the bar high before you even walk through the door and it certainly doesn't disappoint once you do.

Setting the tone with polished floorboards, carved wooden chairs and coloured drapes, a regal tone pervades the venue with bright orange scrolls housing an extensive menu. Bringing cuisine from north India to the plates of Melbourne, owner/chef Iqbal's attitude toward food is incredibly reassuring: do it the right way or don't do it at all. A Pakistani who has added his own flavour to the dishes on offer, he's fiercely protective of his trademark authenticity, and when the food arrives on the table it looks as good as it sounds.

Featuring seafood, biryanis and tried-and-true favourites such as rogan josh and beef vindaloo, things are shaken up a little with the addition of Gharana specials. The nehari, a chunky beef stew cooked overnight will, according to the orange scroll, make you sweat - so take that as either a warning or a challenge!

More than a restaurant, Gharana is an ornate affair that values the element of entertainment. It's the sort of place that you're going to leave with a good taste in your mouth and, with a Bollywood-themed night held once a quarter, you'll no doubt be leaving with a few new dance moves as well.
