There's always a quiver of expectancy when one stumbles across the 'next big thing'. The high-flyers of the medical fraternity have already discovered this new Moroccan gem and, with the eatery happily ensconced amid the genteel surrounds of Subiaco, it won't be too much longer before the rest of the establishment is hammering down its doors. Meeka is a family-driven business, with mother Faye as manager, daughter Leah manning the kitchen as head chef, and barista Ben serving up some brilliant coffee art. Inspired by her travels, Leah's menu reflects her passion for Middle Eastern food. The slow-cooked chicken tagine served with green olives and jewelled couscous has a wonderful, almost-Spanish feel to it, with the couscous balls bursting in the mouth like caviar. The doughnuts, similar to Dutch oliebollen, are a specialty of the house; filled with dark Callabeau chocolate, they're bound to fill any residual gaps. The artefacts decorating the eatery lend to the Middle Eastern theme, while major renovations are afoot to create a wine store-style fit-out designed to complement Leah's excellent mezze tasting plates.
